Master Thesis on AI supervision of plasma coating processes
Delta Engineering is the European market leader in the automation of blow molding plants. Within this field of expertise, Delta Engineering has collaborated with Isytech for over 25 years to produce plasma coating machines for empty bottles. This plasma coating consists of a thin layer applied to the interior of the bottle, which enhances its barrier properties and extends the shelf life of the contained product.
The Challenge
The primary challenge of this process lies in the specific process parameters that significantly influence the final result. Currently, process recipes for every individual bottle type must be manually configured by experts. Furthermore, current process control systems are too limited and cannot detect all potential defects.
Research Objectives
This thesis will investigate various types of Artificial Intelligence (AI) suitable for process control. The research will evaluate:
- The applicability of these AI models to the plasma coating process.
- Which specific AI approach is most suitable for this environment.
Implementation
The ultimate goal is to implement this AI-driven control system within the machine, either as a replacement for or an enhancement to the existing process control infrastructure.
